Features
Traffic is a two-component waterborne 100% polyurethane finish for the surface treatment of wooden floors in commercial premises where a very high resistance to wear is required. It is also suitable for overcoating factory pre-finished cork floors. Traffic Matt provides a clear natural appearance giving “invisible protection” and the look of an oiled floor but, unlike oil, offers years of virtually maintenance-free protection. Traffic Silk Matt has a higher sheen level but all the other qualities of the matt version.

recommendations. The needs of every customer are slightly different.
A good way to satisfy the needs of different customers is to adopt a flexible
approach and choose the right finish for the job.
We have narrowed the basic choice of finishes down to four and they are
presented here. The range includes two new products, Spectra and Seal.
Spectra is a new top coat based on a polyurethane and acrylic dispersion.
Seal is a primer based on exactly the same dispersion but with properties
specially suited for sealing the wood. Its hardness when dry makes it much
easier to abrade than primers based on 100% acrylic dispersions.
We also present two of our top coats that have already become wellestablished.
Mega is the world’s best-selling water-borne finish with an oxygen
crosslinking system. Traffic has been a tremendous success since it was
launched worldwide in 1999. That’s because it gives the highest wear
resistance of any of our finishes and is the most matt finish in our range so
it has a special look called ”invisible protection.”
New Seal is compatible with any of our water-borne top coats shown
here. Choose the combination that fits your needs and the needs of your
customers best.
Mega is easy to apply
but hard to remove
You can’t go wrong with Mega. Here is a finish that is easy to apply and will
satisfy even the most demanding customers. Mega is a 100% polyurethane
(PU) one-component water-borne finish that performs like a two-component
PU finish. In contrast to ordinary one-component finishes that simply dry and
do not crosslink, Mega crosslinks with the oxygen in the air. The normal
drying time for Mega is 2-3 hours.
Mega gives excellent wear, scratch and scuff resistance. In fact, scuff
marks can usually be wiped off with a cloth whereas these marks are very
difficult to remove on an ordinary finish.
With its excellent overall resistance, Mega is a good choice for wood
floors in commercial buildings with many visitors but it is also suitable for
homes, especially for kitchens and busy hallways. With Mega, you have all
the advantages of a two-component finish without the disadvantages – no
mixing and no crosslinker. Mega is a water-borne finish but what makes it
different from other one-component water-borne finishes such as Spectra
is the 100% PU composition and the oxygen crosslinking system.

Spectra – the obvious choice
for homes
Spectra is a new one-component water-borne finish that
is ideal for use in homes. It lives up to the needs of both
flooring contractors and families.
For the flooring contractor, we’ve made Spectra
slightly thicker than our previous water-borne finishes.
With Spectra, you can obtain a good covering and it is
easy to apply with a roller, brush or applicator. It levels
out perfectly and dries in approximately 2 hours. It is
also non-yellowing. Spectra is available in gloss, silk
matt and matt.
Many water-borne finishes are based on a blend
of polyurethane and acrylate. In Spectra, these two
components have been combined into one molecule
rather than just mixed together. This gives Spectra good
wear resistance and improved resistance to scuff marks.

“invisible protection”
Traffic is different from any of our other finishes. It could be called a
‘designer’ finish because it gives architects, specifiers, interior decorators
and flooring contractors the opportunity to create a new look on wooden
floors. The matt look of Traffic is considered to be extremely attractive.
It is the kind of look that was only possible to achieve with finishing
oils before. We call this look “invisible protection” because you hardly
notice that a finish has been applied. You see the wood not the finish.
Traffic provides extremely good protection, preserving a wooden floor
for years. In fact, it is the most wear resistant product we have ever made at
Bona and we have been making finishes since 1943. In standard tests, Traffic
has about twice the wear resistance of ordinary water-borne finishes. This
product is therefore ideal for high traffic areas – hence the name. Traffic is also
an option for homeowners who want a special matt look.
Traffic is a two-component water-borne finish. A hardener is added to
the finish and the drying time is 3-4 hours. As mentioned before, Traffic is only
available in one look – “invisible”. You will hardly notice the finish is there.

Seal is a new primer that
saves money and time
Although our top coats can be used directly on bare wood, we strongly recommend
that you use the primer Seal first. You start building up wear resistance right from
the beginning with Seal, which is a new primer with a special formulation. It is
based on the same dispersion as our new top coat called Spectra but you save
money because a primer costs less than a top coat. Apart from savings, there
are sound technical reasons to use Seal. New Seal ensures that the wood obtains
an even look without discolouration or a patchy appearance. Seal also saves
time because it dries in 1.5 hours compared to approximately 2 hours for Spectra,
for example.
All Bona’s previous primers have been based on pure acrylic dispersions.
This gave a slightly soft and heat-sensitive surface that could only be abraded
gently using the Bona Abrasives Scrad system. Seal is an improved primer. The
dispersion is a combination of polyurethane and acrylic in the same molecule.
It can be abraded using not only the Scrad system (the ideal system for light
abrasion work) but also a sanding disc or screen, grade No. 120 to 150.
After applying Seal, the surface can be abraded to remove any grainraising.
When the top coat is applied, it cannot penetrate through Seal and no further
grainraising occurs. Therefore no further abrading is necessary.
